When we pulled into Henry’s Rabbit Ranch in Staunton, Illinois, we didn’t expect to be so touched by such a quirky little stop. But this place is more than a photo-op or a roadside curiosity — it’s a heartfelt tribute to Route 66, to memories, to the kind of small joys that make a road trip unforgettable.

You’ll find rabbits of all kinds here — the furry ones and the VW kind — along with vintage signs, old trailers, buried cars, and a replica gas station that feels like stepping into a time machine. But what truly struck us was the atmosphere: warm, playful, nostalgic. A kind of open-air museum of affection, built with love and humor.

Rich Henry created this place after a trip down Route 66 in the early ‘90s, when he realized how much of the road’s soul was vanishing. His answer was simple: build a spot where that soul could live on. And he did — with devotion, charm, and a lot of rabbits.

Sadly, Rich passed away in 2024, but friends and family have lovingly committed to keeping the ranch open at least through the Route 66 Centennial in 2026. It’s a tribute not only to the Mother Road, but to Rich’s passion and spirit.

Inducted into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame in 2012, the ranch reminds us that Route 66 isn’t just about cars and highways — it’s about people, stories, and the heartfelt places that make you smile long after you’ve driven away.

A truly special stop, not to be missed.
